Networking and Communications Laboratory
Simulation platform
The main objective is to build a simulation platform that models a complete layer-2 node. This includes features like bridging functionality, traffic generation, MAC implementation and queue-scheduler systems.
It is not a closed module so it also includes the possibility to add higher layers clients in order to test more different environments.
Other required functionalities are scalability to simulate large networks, flexibility to deal with deep sensitivity analysis and reliability of the results.
The platform is currenlty implemented using the ns3 network simulator.
Traffic collection and Analysis platform
Traffic capture is a tool that enables a way to evaluate whether the former elements are efficient by means of carrying out analysis of the collected traffic statistics. Real time traffic capturing involves several aspects that range from the capturing process, the anonymisation of critical information, the management of a rather massive and increasing source of traffic statistics, and the collected traffic analysis techniques and procedures.
The objective of the Netcom traffic collection platform is to design, implement and evaluate a platform that enables automatic traffic collection and analysis of telecommunications networks.
